"Wrath of the Elder Gods"

Films: Color Out of Space (2019)

Alias: None

Type: Alien

Location: Eldritch Location/Civilized Area

Height/Weight: Indescribable.

Affiliation: Neutral, leaning on Evil

Summary: Cosmic horror stories are incredibly hard to pull off, if only because many would be turned off by the rampant nihilism and the unsavory beliefs that H.P. Lovecraft reveled in (don't google the name of his cat, folks). But it is indeed possible, and many have tried. Mostly succeeded even. And this is yet another success. Dare we say, one of THE most successful. And for the most horrifying reasons too.

History: Somewhere in the countryside of Arkham County, a meteorite glowing a vibrant purple has landed. After a while, it disappears, but the nightmare has officially begun. That "color" coming from it is sentient, hailing from a world of writhing tentacles and bizarre structures, no doubt the realm of the Great Old Ones themselves. And it has already corrupted the local water supply, hoping to shape the land into something of its preference. As the day progresses, a family and their neighbors are about to receive the full might of cosmic violence and insanity.

Notable Kills: Everything that falls to the color is either a simpering mess of fused flesh or graphically murdered by such abominations. Case in point, a man getting violently impaled by a sentient tree.

Final Fate: After only one is left alive, he is the only one to bear witness to both the color's origins and the now full-blown mass of neon chaos exiting the world through a portal in space-time. With the place in ruins, he swears to never drink the water here again, lest it still be contaminated with the color's essence.

Powers/Abilities: The color can poison all life forms, mutate them into horrific fusions, or even bring inanimate objects to life. It can also possess and corrupt anything. Really, its power is boundless.

Weakness: None.

Scariness Factor: 5-You cannot defeat it. You can only hope it gets bored with where you're living and leaves. And until then, be prepared to watch your loved ones become mutilating psychos, the animals turn into bloodthirsty mutants, and all sorts of violent entropy taking over. Beware the color, beware all it touches, but most importantly, beware that which comes from the stars. At least, in case you're 100% sure that Lovecraft had a hand in it.

Trivia: -In the original story, the color's mutations are actually quite slow, and the humans infected by it are merely reduced to utter weaklings, their minds broken. It is also less clear whether the color is even a sentient life form or not.

-This film was directed by Richard Stanley, who pretty much completely resurrected his dead-and-buried career with it after being fired from the disaster that was 1996's "The Island of Dr. Moreau". A fine return to form, honestly.
